Aging with Intellectual & Developmental Disability

This course is designed to help the workforce in the aging network understand what intellectual and developmental disabilities are and how they impact a person’s life from birth to older age. This includes how the condition is manifested (physical, emotional, mental, and social), and how it may or not impair the ability to live independently while enjoying all the benefits of a free and open society. Information for the course draws on research that shows how people with intellectual and developmental disabilities can successfully be integrated into aging programs. It discusses the necessity of integrating the networks that separately support aging and disability and to bridge the differences to more effectively serve older people who have aged with lifelong disabilities.
