Policies for Asynchronous Online Courses & Certificates
Completion – Online Certificate Program and Course
* If you are part of a state or agency program, please check with your Training Lead about completion date.
All asynchronous learners will have one year from their date of enrollment to access and complete their online certificate program or course. Asynchronous learners will also have one year from enrollment date to access and complete course content. We highly recommend that learners aim to complete within 9 months of enrollment. To extend access beyond the one-year mark, there will be a $100 extension fee for an additional 60 days of access. Extensions without a fee will be granted for extenuating circumstances & medical leaves. To submit a request, fill out our Learner Account Assistance form.
Online Course Credit & Transfers
Learners will have the option to swap up to three online courses completed within two years of completing a certificate program or course. However, learners will need to pay the full rate for the certificate program.
Participants will have access to the online courses for one year from the launch of the program (invoice date). Once a learner has enrolled in a spot, this spot cannot be transferred to another learner. Program managers may replace learners that have not enrolled in the online program.
These learners will also have one year to access and complete their training from the launch date of the program. Boston University School of Social Work may, on a case-by-case basis, decide to extend the end date for participants, but please keep in mind that there may be an additional administrative fee associated with doing so.

Policies for CE Program Approval:
General Policies for CE Program Applications:
- All new CE program applications and repeat program applications must be received well before the event takes place.
- Be sure to follow instructions on the applications, and submit all required materials such as program title, agenda, dates, speaker bios, references, sample certificates, evaluations, and post-tests (if required).
- Please submit new applications 3-4 weeks in advance. (A rush fee of $75 will be required of applications that are submitted on short notice)
- For repeat programs, you may submit repeat applications several days before the event.
- We review applications by the order in which the events take place, for example, if you submit an application in February for an April presentation, you most likely will not hear back until Mid-March or April (depending on the date in April it will be taking place).
- While breaks are required in longer programs, we cannot award CEs for lunch breaks in a program; learners must be actively engaged in learning in order for CEs to be awarded. Breaks must be deducted from the total number of CEs given.
- We do not offer partial credit, thus if you have a multiple day program and a learner misses one day, they cannot receive CEs for the offering. If you are offering a multiple day program and you want to make sure that folks receive credit for the parts of the program that they were able to attend, you should send in separate applications for each day of the program.
CEs for In-Person offerings:
- Participants must sign out and complete an evaluation form in order to receive their CE Credits.
- Participants must attend the entire seminar in order to receive CE credits. If there are extenuating circumstances and a participant needs to leave, they must notify the instructor of their reason to leave early, and they need to have been present for more time than they were absent.
CEs for Live Webinars:
- In order to be able to give CEs for an offering, the instructor must confirm a learner’s attendance. Webinar attendance can be verified by either by requiring the learner’s cameras to be on for the duration of the training, or via the learner’s submission of a post-test quiz.
- For virtual programs, a post-test quiz is required to verify learning. The standard post-test must include 10 questions (multiple choice or true/false) for the first CE hour and five more questions for each additional CE hour. True/false questions may not comprise more than half the questions on a standard posttest.
- Instructors must receive both the completed evaluation and a post-test quiz from the learners, and the learners all must receive a 70% or higher on the post-test quiz within three tries in order to earn CE credit for the program.
