BUSSW: Are Paramedics Equipped to Manage Behavioral Health Emergencies?

Paramedics respond to a wide range of emergencies, including individual emergencies like heart attacks and strokes, as well as public health crises like the opioid epidemic. These workers are skilled in life-saving resuscitation and stabilization, but a study by researchers at Boston University School of Social Work (BUSSW), including CADER Director Bronwyn Keefe, shows paramedics are not prepared enough to handle behavioral health issues.
