Announcing The Network’s Fall 2024 Program Schedule
The Network for Professional Education at BU School of Social Work offers a variety of virtual programs and webinars on timely and relevant social work topics each fall. Bolster your practice with research-driven professional learning opportunities on behavioral health, caregiving, and couples and family therapy.
9/4 – 12/11: Cognitive and Behavioral Interventions Certificate
Join BUSSW instructor Olita Day-Berger for this 12-week hybrid training program that teaches licensed social workers, and health and mental health professionals the theoretical frameworks and basic practice skills of evidence-based Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT). Participants emerge with a thorough grounding in CBT methods and the capacity to integrate it into their current practices.
10/2: Caregiving Assessment — Designing the Best Care Plan for Older Adults
This training is designed to empower social workers and caregivers to assess, develop, and customize care plans to support the unique needs and preferences of older adults in their care. Learn to assess the challenges, create a care plan to address the problems, and implement and/or monitor the care plan solutions as needed.
10/22: Introduction to the AWARE Intervention
In this lunchtime webinar, BUSSW Prof. Hyeouk “Chris” Hahm will share the significance of the AWARE mental health intervention for young Asian-American women. Prof. Hahm will introduce participants to her research which led to the development of the AWARE Training Certificate, a program that helps social workers and other practitioners build skills to support Asian-American women who are facing unique challenges.

10/31 – 11/1: The Gestalt Approach to Psychotherapy with Couples and Families: An Experiential Workshop
This two-part program helps therapists see that their role is to raise client awareness in support of growth and development vs. “fixing” dysfunction. Clinicians will learn to recognize how people connect, give effective feedback, and develop creative approaches to help clients expand their range of behavior.
11/21 – 11/22: Foundations of Motivational Interviewing (MI)
Foundations of Motivational Interviewing will give learners an enhanced knowledge of tangible clinical interventions that can be utilized with clients to target collaboratively identified problem behaviors. They will also learn how Motivational Interviewing’s emphasis on ‘change talk’ makes it unique, by emphasizing tangible skills that help clients find the motivation to make meaningful behavioral changes.
