Description
SBIRT is an evidence-based practice used to identify, reduce, and prevent problematic use, and dependence on alcohol and illicit drugs. Coupled with “motivational interviewing,” in which the clinician partners with the client to make decisions about the client’s care, SBIRT is used in primary care practices, hospitals, clinics, emergency rooms, college and university health services, employee assistance programs and a range of community settings. SBIRT has three steps: Screening, Brief Intervention and Referral to Treatment. The course includes lectures that give you practical advice on how to do screening and brief intervention, and videos that demonstrate how to apply these skills.
