Live Webinar
Description
The words we choose when talking about aging and older people can perpetuate ageist misperceptions with wide-ranging consequences. Ageism is so prevalent that researchers have found evidence it harms the health of older people in 45 countries. It contributes to social isolation and workforce discrimination and can reduce life expectancy.
Reframing the way we talk about aging can change peoples’ attitudes, reduce implicit bias against older people and foster more favorable public policies. As social workers, you are in a unique position to help reframe aging—to support your clients, advocate for essential resources and advance the development of thriving age-friendly communities.
This course will equip you with tools to define and identify ageism, enhance your awareness of implicit bias, and introduce effective strategies for reframing aging. You’ll also learn about resources for eliminating elderspeak. The training draws on recommendations from FrameWorks Institute’s Reframing Aging research and includes other valuable resources.
Join us on September 25th for an engaging 2-hour webinar to better understand Aging and Ageism in our culture and how this impacts health and human service work.
