April 24th: DBT — Understanding & Implementing Skills for Dialectical Behavior Therapy

Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) is quickly becoming one of the most utilized therapies to assist clients with obtaining the ultimate goal of DBT: building a life worth living.

The objectives of this therapeutic modality include assisting clients with managing emotions, coping with distress in healthy ways, learning effective communication strategies and more. These powerful, evidence-based skills can be implemented with a wide variety of clients and presenting problems making DBT a useful tool for all clinicians.

This training will include but is not limited to reviewing the biosocial theory behind DBT, understanding the four modules and how to implement various skills, as well as applying DBT to real-life examples.

This is an introductory training designed for social work professionals of any level who are looking to increase their knowledge and confidence when implementing DBT skills with their clients.

About the Instructor:

Alison Boganski, LICSW, PMH-C, is dedicated to spreading education and awareness of a variety of mental health concerns including but not limited to eating disorders, perinatal mental health, managing depression and anxiety. She is an advocate for disseminating information to those who are just learning or experienced clinicians looking to refresh their knowledge, and incorporate a variety of treatment techniques into their trainings including CBT and DBT. In addition to her private psychotherapy practice, she enjoys teaching and leading others in professional education training in her role as adjunct professor of psychology at Stonehill College.

Objectives

  • Learn and understand the biosocial theory behind DBT
  • Define the goals for each of the four modules of DBT
  • Implement at least two evidenced-based DBT skills to manage client symptoms
